Socks
The feet are usually the most strained part of the body during physical activity. In addition to proper, quality footwear — which should already be a given — socks are also important. Why? Feet are exposed to cold, sweat and friction against the inside of shoes.
Socks are generally divided into winter, summer and knee-high varieties. Military socks typically reach above the ankle — they are suitable for higher footwear and winter months. High army socks are also a good match for hiking boots; otherwise you risk an unpleasant abrasion. For the summer months there are low cut ankle socks — an ideal choice for trainers and low footwear. They are designed to effectively wick away moisture.
Thermal socks — a.k.a. functional socks
Functional socks, often also called thermal socks, are currently on the rise. Wool and cotton are undoubtedly great materials that provide warmth and breathe naturally. However, they are not ideal in every situation. Every soldier and hiker of the 21st century knows that functional clothing (e.g. thermal underwear) is ideal during higher physical activity. Functional socks offer you far better moisture-wicking and a long service life.
