Tactical Carabiners
Carabiners are tools used in climbing. They are part of the belay chain, used for rappelling or via ferrata. There is a wide range of carabiners and thanks to their diversity, they have a very broad range of applications — not only in mountaineering. In order to choose the right carabiner, you need to know its purpose and what you will be using it for.
Choosing a Carabiner
Carabiners are chosen according to size and load capacity. Carabiners for climbers must have a minimum load capacity of 20 kN on the main axis and at least 7 kN on the minor axis. The strength with the gate open must be at least 7 kN. If you want to use carabiners for climbing, you should know how to correctly use each type.
Locking carabiners are safer — they feature a mechanism to lock the gate against inadvertent opening.
Plastic and Classic Carabiners
Outdoor enthusiasts, mountain lovers and all hikers who enjoy roaming nature with a backpack know exactly what needs to be packed. To be able to take as much as possible, they need to attach various tools, keys, mugs and other small items to their backpack. For this, carabiners are ideal. Of course, these are not in any way intended for climbing. Stylish carabiners with an embroidered blood type are particularly useful — in the event of an accident, first responders will have your blood type information instantly to hand. We offer a large assortment of these carabiners from manufacturers MFH and Mil-Tech.
Most Common Types of Carabiners
HMS Carabiners (type H)
These pear-shaped carabiners are intended for belaying and rappelling. They are fitted with a locking gate. They are also ideal for work at height and rescue operations. We offer quality HMS carabiners from the well-known manufacturer Altus.
D Carabiners (type B)
These are the most versatile carabiners and serve various purposes depending on whether the gate has a lock or not. The asymmetric D-type carabiner narrows on one side, which allows its weight to be reduced even further. They are suitable for progressive belaying and self-belaying.
Oval Carabiners (type X)
These are among the least expensive carabiners. They are not used for direct fall arrest, as they do not have the same strength as D-type carabiners. They are more commonly used in conjunction with other belay devices such as pulleys and the like.
Via Ferrata Carabiners (type K)
Via ferrata carabiners are more robust than other types, as they are used on secured "ferrata" routes. They are usually fitted with an automatic gate lock.
