Whistles
Hiking and walking in the mountains are wonderful activities. Packing the right things is always important — you never know what you might need. I'm sure everyone has been on a hike at least once and found themselves missing something, even after packing carefully. What you pack should depend on the length and difficulty of the trail ahead of you.
When packing your backpack, don't forget to pack a torch, compass, first aid kit and other small items that could save your life in certain situations. These small essentials include signal whistles. In today's tech-driven world they may seem trivial to some, but in certain situations they can be genuinely life-saving. We all know the feeling — when you urgently need to call for help, your phone is usually dead, and that can happen just as easily in the mountains. Especially in frost, a phone can lose charge very quickly. Signal coverage in the mountains is also very poor.
That is why you should always plan for the worst when setting out on a hike. For example, you might get lost or twist your ankle and be unable to continue. To call for help and attract attention in the event of an accident, whistles are an excellent tool. You can shout for help too, of course, but it is very exhausting and no one may understand you.
Which whistle should you choose?
Signal whistles are made from either plastic or metal. Metal whistles are more durable than plastic ones, which can get damaged quickly. For winter hikes, plastic whistles are more practical. A metal whistle freezes to your lips in cold weather, so we do not recommend it then. The most practical whistles are those with a cord for hanging around your neck. That way you will always have it to hand even if you fall far from your backpack.
Multi-purpose whistles
You can also choose a whistle with a compass, giving you two tools in one. If you get lost, the compass will quickly help you find your bearings. Some whistles in our range are multi-functional with various features — for example a thermometer, magnifying glass, mirror or signal lamp. Some whistles are designed so that even a light breath of air produces a loud sound. This is helpful when the person in distress is exhausted and cannot blow the whistle hard.
