Women's Softshell Jackets
In our range you will find two models of women's softshell jackets from manufacturer Marikoo. The model Zimtzicke is available in up to eight colour variants — pink, coral, olive, green, red, black, yellow, taupe grey. It is a long women's softshell jacket and it is precisely because of its cut that it is so popular. It is windproof and waterproof with a hydrostatic head of 7000 mm.
The hydrostatic head is an important indicator for waterproof jackets. It represents the volume of water (imagine a column of water horizontally on the clothing) that the garment can withstand before it starts to leak. In short, the hydrostatic head characterises how well the fabric resists a given water pressure.
Another excellent choice is the jacket CHUU, which, unlike the Zimtzicke, is a transitional jacket more suitable for autumn and spring weather. Its advantage is the reversible material — on one side a non-slip cotton fabric and on the other side a functional, water-repellent and windproof material — polyester and spandex.
WHAT IS SOFTSHELL?
Softshell is a versatile fabric used primarily for outdoor clothing. Among its greatest advantages we can count wind protection, flexibility and breathability. It does not provide complete waterproofing, but thanks to its hydrophobic finish it repels water in the form of droplets that run off the fabric, thus protecting against soaking through. Softshell jackets are most useful in damp and windy weather during more demanding outdoor activities or for everyday wear.
ADVANTAGES OF SOFTSHELL MATERIAL:
- windproofness
- partial waterproofing depending on the hydrostatic head
- hydrophobicity — water repellency
- breathability
- material elasticity
- thermal insulation properties
- year-round wearability
SOFTSHELL JACKETS ARE NOT COMPLETELY WATERPROOF, BUT THEY ARE WATER-REPELLENT. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
Softshell jackets are often mistakenly understood as warm insulating pieces, but in most cases they offer moderate warmth, depending on whether it is a winter or transitional jacket. It should, however, be noted that softshell jackets are not completely waterproof. They are naturally water-repellent and hydrophobic — the ability of the material to form water into droplets that run down the fabric. Under greater pressure — heavy rain — water can, however, penetrate through the fabric and the wax layer and thus soak through. We can also, however, encounter partially waterproof softshell jackets, in which case the above-mentioned hydrostatic head is observed. One must not forget that the higher the jacket's hydrostatic head, the lower its breathability.
There is, however, no need to be put off. Softshell jackets are perfect for outdoor activities designed for high-performance tasks. They are made from nylon or polyester, which are very flexible and breathable and offer good resistance to weather conditions. It is precisely thanks to these properties that they are excellent for climbing, hiking, cycling and similar activities. If you are still considering purchasing a softshell jacket, do not hesitate. With your purchase you will gain an excellent outdoor jacket that you will also find useful on ordinary days.
