Miyamoto Musashi lived from 1584 to 1645 and is recorded in Japanese history as one of the most influential samurai. He is regarded as the greatest Japanese swordsman. He was an artist and craftsman in equal measure. The Musashi Ichi Tanto features a hand-forged blade made from 1045 carbon steel with a fine hamon and was traditionally hardened. The sharp blade is fitted with a hi (fuller) to reduce overall weight. The handle (tsuka) is made from wood, wrapped in genuine ray skin and is fitted with two menuki. It has also been traditionally wrapped in black cotton. The tang is particularly long and secured with two bamboo pegs (mekugi). The scabbard (saya) is made from wood and the blade collar (habaki) is made from brass. This model was made according to original museum displays. The tanto comes with a certificate of origin, wrapped in cloth and packaged in a high-quality wooden box. All measurements are subject to estimation.
