Gas Canisters
Gas stoves and burners owe their excellent parameters — and their reliable performance — largely to the canisters. Canisters are in principle divided into screw-on threaded canisters and puncture canisters. While in the past screw-on canisters were preferred mainly because they could be disconnected from the stove even before being fully consumed, today puncture canisters are also available that can be disconnected from a gas stove before being fully empty.
Not All Refills Are the Same
Canisters from manufacturers MFH, Mil-Tec, Zippo and O&T naturally differ not only in size, weight and the type of connection mentioned above. The decisive factor in choosing the right canister may be the type of fuel used. In practice you may therefore choose between the classic propane-butane mixture, which is better suited for standard climatic conditions, or you may prefer canisters with a gas mixture formulated to remain reliable even at lower sub-zero temperatures. So if you do not want to be left without a hot meal or warm drink somewhere out in the wild, keep this parameter in mind when choosing a canister.
