The Billy Can originated during the Australian gold rush. At that time, gold miners imported tinned food because preparing meals in mines was difficult. These tins served as cooking and storage containers that could be reused. A favourite dish was French "bouilli" – which means boiled meat. The pronunciation was complicated and was replaced with the word Billy. The Billy tin has since become a classic in outdoor and bushcraft. It is very robust, compact and reliable. It is suitable for all types of cooking on a campfire or stove, such as stewing, boiling, baking, braising or barbecuing. With the handle attached, the Billy Can can be suspended over a fire, but the plastic clips must be removed. The practical insert of the Billy Can pot can be used as a plate or small frying pan.
