The 3V Master Tanto II knife from COLD STEEL is a robust knife with unique chopping properties. Cold Steel designed and popularised this style in the early 1990s. Our knives made from American CPM 3-V steel are highly durable. Our blades, made from American CPM 3-V steel, are highly resistant. CPM 3-V is a tool steel, resistant to fracture and general wear. CPM 3V is a tool steel manufactured by powder metallurgy process with uniform microstructure. Its chemical composition gives it exceptional toughness, resistance to brittleness and very good wear resistance. CPM 3V offers greater toughness than, for example, D2. Standard hardness of CPM 3V ranges between 58 to 60 HRC. CPM 3V often replaces highly alloyed tool steels in operations where chronic problems with tool cracking or breaking occur. Its chemical composition reduces corrosion resistance, so knives made from this steel should have subsequent surface treatment or the owner must pay increased attention to regular knife maintenance. The primary, main blade and secondary blade at the tip of the Tanto knife are hand-sharpened. The intersection of these two blades (known as Yakote) creates a very effective secondary point, which enables a devastating cutting effect.
