The AD-15 model is based on a patented original by American knife maker Andrew Demke, who has developed countless models for Cold Steel and is also the author of the patented Tri-Ad Lock™, the safest back lock of all time. The new AD-15 knife allows opening and closing with one hand. The Spear Point blade shape with a pronounced blade spine and hollow ground edge provides the knife with exceptional cutting performance. The uniqueness and exceptionality of this factory-made AD-15 knife lies above all in Andrew's new patented "Scorpion Lock". On this lightweight version of the knife, the lower part of the handle is made by injection moulding from Griv-Ex™ material instead of the expensive 3D CNC machining used on the standard AD-15 model. The upper part of the handle, called the "yoke", is created from 3D machined aluminium 6061. This yoke is wedged against a safety pin when opening the knife and is pulled towards it by a strong pressure spring. To open the knife, simply push your thumb on the pin and watch as the yoke deflects upwards from its axis until the safety pin engages in a deep notch. Thanks to the constant pressure of the spring and your hand, the Scorpion lock is practically resistant to failure. Conversely, when closing the knife, your fingers lift the yoke to release the blade for closing. The blade is made from Japanese AUS 10A steel. This martensitic, stainless steel has very good strength properties and is used primarily as a cutting tool material. Compared to AUS 8A steel, it holds an edge better and is more resistant to wear. The steel was subsequently heat-treated to achieve the perfect balance between edge retention and easy resharpening.
