The Colichemarde sword by Cold Steel is a replica of a small historical sword. Colichemarde swords appeared in military equipment at the end of the 16th century and throughout the 17th century. This was a period of decline for rapiers and the rise of the small sword. Its blade is shaped to withstand attacks from larger and heavier weapons. The blade at the guard is very substantial, but the tip and point are thin and light. Its highly decorative handle of twisted stainless steel wire is at the same time highly functional. In front of the ornate guard are two finger loops on the handle, which together with the shape and balance of the weapon make the sword significantly easier to control.
