The Maasai spear combines the design of the traditional East African Maasai spear with the durability of modern materials. WARNING!!! The Maasai spear is a solid and fully functional combat spear. It takes its dimensions and handling characteristics from traditional Maasai spears. The Maasai spear from the personal collection of Cold Steel founder Lynn C. Thompson. Maasai warriors use these unique spears for combat and hunting. They are valued personal possessions, passed down from father to son. In the hands of their experienced and trained warriors, this spear is quite formidable; the double-edged spear head is as long as a short sword (589 mm long and 50 mm wide) and is equally effective for cutting as for thrusting. The rear of the spear has a counterbalancing long spike, which not only gives the spear balance but also serves as a heavy thrusting weapon. When assembled, the spear is 1,829 mm long and weighs 1,418 g. The Maasai have complete confidence in this traditional weapon and train with it from the time of young Maasai Morans. In the ritual of a young man's passage to warrior, they are required to kill a lion with the spear alone, thereby proving their worth and confirming their maturation into manhood. This Maasai spear has a socket head and tip made from solid and durable carbon steel S50C, to which is attached a haft made from robust hardwood American ash. The spear is supplied unassembled, but is simply constructed with pre-drilled rivets and included assembly screws. Detailed assembly instructions are printed on the enclosed leaflet. The package also includes a Secure-Ex safety holster with a hard shell.
