The Cold Steel Leatherneck series features a distinctive handle shape and two different blade types. Whilst the Clip Point blade is regarded as universal and preferred by military personnel and rescue teams, the Tanto blade has been "adopted" by members of all armed forces. The "American Tanto" has a reinforced secondary tip for greater cutting power. The Cold Steel Leatherneck blade is made from D2 steel. This is a die steel suitable for cold forging with a higher content of alloying elements. The chromium and carbon content is particularly high. The steel has high resistance to wear, holds an edge very well, but this reduces machinability and the edge is harder to restore. It is relatively resistant to corrosion, but it is not stainless steel. For this reason, the blade is treated with an anti-corrosion, non-reflective black powder coating for safety. The strength of the knife is ensured by full tang construction and the solid handle is finished with a strong steel pommel (not a cheap casting or plastic, as seen in similar constructions from competitors on the market). This means that in an emergency, the rear of the handle can be used as a hammer. It is a handle material with unique properties and is significantly stronger than Zy-Ex. The material is not affected by moisture, temperature changes or deformation. The deep texture provides the handle with excellent non-slip properties. For safe and comfortable carrying of Leatherneck knives, each knife is equipped with a robust and universal military Secure-Ex® sheath.
