The Magnum Tanto II in San Mai® configuration is a robust knife with unique chopping properties. It was Cold Steel who, in the early 1990s, designed and popularised the "American Tanto" knife. Our knives made using San Mai III technology have been the domain of Cold Steel for decades. San Mai III technology is based on the methods of Japanese sword makers. It is a sandwich construction of the blade from layers of different hardness. Whilst the middle layer is made from hard steel with a high carbon content, the top two layers are made from much harder steel to prevent cracking of the middle layer. As a result, the blade is maximally resistant to loss of edge without the risk of breaking. These luxury blades, however, are manufactured only in limited numbers. VG-10 steel, which is used in the manufacture of this blade, is a stainless steel with a high carbon content. The knife comes with a Secure-Ex® sheath.
