The Luzon knife was designed by COLD STEEL president Lynn C. Thompson in collaboration with Mike Wallace. The knife is named after the largest Philippine island, Luzon (LOO-ZAHN). The Luzon knife's shape is inspired by several balisongs in Lynn's personal collection, but its classic folding knife design makes the Luzon a suitable alternative for regions of the world where it is not legal to carry or own balisongs. The knife's blade is made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which after heat treatment exhibits a hardness of 57–58 Rockwell. Given the blade's shape, the knife is intended primarily for stabbing, but thanks to the concave, curved belly of the blade, the knife cuts very well. The knife's handle is inspired by the shape of bamboo and is made from glass-filled nylon marked GFN. The Luzon handle's shape allows comfortable grip in several positions. The knife is equipped with two locks for increased safety. The blade is secured by a linerlock against accidental closure, as well as a secondary safety mechanism that is exceptionally resistant to impact once engaged. The Luzon knife is available in two sizes. In both cases, the Luzon knife is equipped with a hole for safety cords. The Luzon is an inexpensive but practical pocket clip for EDC.
