San Mai III technology is based on the methods of Japanese sword makers. It is a sandwich construction of the blade from layers of different hardness. Whilst the middle layer is made of hard steel with a high carbon content, the top two layers are made of much harder steel to prevent cracking of the middle layer. As a result, the blade is maximally resistant to loss of edge without the risk of breaking. These luxury blades, however, are manufactured only in limited numbers. VG-10 steel, which is used to manufacture this blade, is a stainless steel with a high carbon content. The perfectly shaped knife handle made from Kraton material (Long Kray-Ex™) offers a non-slip surface. It fits perfectly in the hand and allows even very fine manipulation of the knife in wet and muddy environments. The knife comes with a Secure-Ex® sheath.
