Specification
The third generation of the hugely popular rechargeable head torch Fenix HM51R Ruby V3.0 offers a light output of up to 860 lumens (ANSI) of neutral white light (4500 K) with a beam distance of up to 140 metres and is also equipped with red LEDs. It is powered by a single rechargeable RCR123A battery (included in the packaging), which charges directly in the torch via a modern USB-C connector; alternatively, a disposable CR123A lithium battery can be used for power (with limited maximum output of 150 lumens). The control button also features an indicator LED, so you will always know when to charge the battery. The torch head is magnetic, so it can be easily attached to anything made of iron. The HM51R has nine different lighting modes, allowing you to choose between high power and long runtime (up to 125 hours). The torch is powered by digitally controlled constant current to ensure consistent light output even as battery voltage drops (during gradual discharge).
All-metal construction ensures high durability, optimal cooling and is fully waterproof to IP68 standard to a depth of 2 metres underwater. The practicality of the head torch is enhanced by the ability to remove the light from the head mount and use it as a small pocket torch. In addition, the head torch is equipped with a removable steel clip, so you can easily attach it to a pocket or strap. The Fenix HM51R V3.0 head torch is an ideal companion for various sports activities, outdoor trips and home and work use.
The Fenix HM51R head torch is a limited edition that builds on the Fenix HM50R and offers a number of improvements. For example, higher output of white and red light, greater battery capacity, warmer light colour, magnetic head, constant regulation in most modes, more red light modes and more.
All torch parameters (light output, battery runtime, waterproofing, beam distance and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.

Use
From the factory, there may be a black insulating cover inside the torch on the battery. Before first use, remove it from the battery.
- The off head torch will turn on to the last used white light mode by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
- The off head torch will turn on to the last used red light mode by double-tapping the button quickly.
- The on head torch will turn off by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
When the head torch is on, you can cycle through power modes with short button presses in the order 3 - 50 - 160 - 450 - 860 lumens (when turned on to white light) or red 1 lumen - red 10 lumens - red flashing - red SOS (when turned on to red light). The torch has memory and will always turn on in the last set mode (applies to both white and red light).
Overheat protection: When using the head torch on high power modes for extended periods, a large amount of heat accumulates. When the torch reaches a temperature of 60 °C or higher, it automatically reduces power by a few lumens to lower the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60 °C, the power gradually increases again.
Battery charge status indication: After a short button press (the head torch must be off), the LED indicator in the button activates. If the indicator light is green, the battery is charged to more than 85%. Green flashing means 50-85% capacity. If it lights red, it is charged to 20-50%. Red flashing indicates that less than 20% of the battery capacity remains. The indication works correctly only with rechargeable RCR123A / 16340 batteries.
Charging: Unclip the rubber cover of the charging connector and plug the supplied cable into the torch (USB-C connector); plug the other end of the cable into a computer, power bank or USB mains adapter or car adapter (not included in the packaging). During charging, the side button lights red and turns green when fully charged. After charging the torch, seal the charging connector again with the rubber cover. Charging a fully discharged battery takes approximately 2 hours. In an emergency, the torch can be used while charging, but only white modes 3 and 50 lumens and red modes will be available.
Low battery warning: When the battery voltage drops below the set level, the head torch automatically switches to lower power modes. If the head torch is already switched to the lowest power mode and the battery is critically discharged, the indicator in the button will start flashing red. The torch will continue to light until the battery is completely discharged. Note: the low battery warning is calibrated only for the voltage of rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
Locking the head torch against accidental activation: Loosen the battery lock of the head torch by a quarter turn; this breaks the electrical contact and the torch cannot be turned on. The button can also be locked electronically – with the head torch off, hold the button down for 3 seconds. After locking, the torch will flash red. To unlock, hold the button down for 3 seconds again.
Warning
- Keep this head torch out of reach of children.
- Do not shine the head torch directly into anyone's eyes.
- Do not disassemble the sealed part in the torch head yourself, as this will void the warranty.
- Lock the head torch or remove the battery to prevent accidental activation if the head torch is placed in a closed and flammable environment, such as pockets and rucksacks.
- Do not shine on flammable objects from close range, as this could damage them or create a hazard due to high temperature.
- If using a disposable CR123A battery, do not attempt to charge it in the torch.
- If the protective rubber rings appear damaged after prolonged use, replace them. The rings should also be lubricated to prevent rubber erosion. By following these rules, the torch will be properly protected against water.
- If the torch is flashing, not switching to higher power modes, or not lighting up, it could be one of the following reasons:
- The battery is almost discharged – charge it or replace it.
- The contacts inside the torch are dirty – clean them with cotton wool soaked in alcohol.
- The back of the torch is loose – tighten it.
