Specification
Extremely durable, lightweight and tailored for demanding users. The rechargeable head torch Fenix HM53R Garnet is a special edition designed with emphasis on top performance and maximum practicality in the field. It offers a brilliant light output of up to 1200 lumens (ANSI) with a beam distance of up to 158 metres. Its main advantage is the neutral white light shade (4500 K), which provides more accurate colour rendering and much better contrast in nature.
In addition to the white reflector, the head torch is also equipped with a powerful red light with output of up to 30 lumens. This does not disrupt eye adaptation to darkness and thanks to a distinctive flashing mode, the HM53R Garnet serves excellently as a safety rear light for a bicycle.
The light is powered by an included rechargeable 18350 battery with a capacity of 1600 mAh, which charges directly in the head torch body via a modern USB-C connector. The control button features a practical indicator LED, so you always know exactly when it is time to top up the power. In an emergency, you can also use a disposable CR123A lithium battery for power (with maximum output limited to 150 lumens). Top-class electronics with digital power regulation ensures constant light output even as the battery slowly discharges. In economy mode, it can shine for up to 250 hours continuously.
From head torch to pocket torch in seconds: The all-metal light can be easily detached from the head strap and thanks to a steel clip, it can be attached to your belt, pocket or rucksack strap. The light's end cap is also magnetic, so you can easily attach it to any metal surface. Combined with full waterproofing to the IP68 standard (submersion to 2 metres) and high impact resistance, this makes the HM53R Garnet model an ideal companion for running, hiking, fishing, camping and also for demanding professional work.
The HM53R Garnet version is specially adapted for the local market and differs from the standard version in the following points:
- The LED in the distance reflector has a neutral light shade instead of cool.
- After heating, it maintains higher output in Turbo mode and does not reduce output in lower modes.
- The red cone has four power modes instead of three, including an extra economy mode with 1 lumen output.
- Stronger and faster flashing of the red light allows the HM53R Garnet to be used as a bicycle flasher.
- Memory for the last red light mode.
All parameters of the light (light output, battery runtime, waterproofing, beam distance and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.

- The package includes the HM53R Garnet head torch with holder and strap, ARB-L18-1600 battery, spare O-ring, USB-C charging cable.
- You can purchase the Fenix APB-20 case separately; after removing it from the holder, you can attach it to the handlebars using Lockblock and Bikeblock holders.
- You can also purchase a spare strap, USB mains adapter and USB car adapter separately.
Use
From the factory, there may be a black insulation cover inside the light on the battery. Before first use, remove it from the battery.
- The off head torch turns on to white light by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
- The off head torch turns on to red light by double-tapping the button quickly.
- The on head torch turns off by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
When the head torch is on, you can use short button presses to cyclically switch power modes in the order 3 - 50 - 150 - 400 - 1200 lumens (when turned on to white light), or red 1 lumen - red 10 lumens - red 30 lumens - red flashing (when turned on to red light). The head torch has memory and will turn on in the last set power mode for both red and white light, with the exception of Turbo mode. After turning off in Turbo mode, it always turns on to high mode.
Overheat protection: When using the head torch on high power modes for extended periods, a large amount of heat accumulates. When the head torch reaches a temperature of 55 °C or higher, it automatically reduces output by several lumens to lower the temperature. When the temperature drops below 55 °C, the output gradually increases again.
Battery charge status indication: After a short button press (the head torch must be off), the LED indicator in the button activates. If the indicator diode lights green, the battery is charged to more than 80%. Green flashing means 50-80% capacity. If it lights red, it is charged to 20-50%. Red flashing indicates that less than 20% of the battery capacity remains. The indication works correctly only with rechargeable 18350 batteries.
Charging: Unclip the rubber cover of the charging connector and plug the included cable into the light (USB-C connector). Plug the other end of the cable into a computer, power bank or USB mains adapter or car adapter (not included in the package). During charging, the side button lights red and turns green when fully charged. After charging the light, seal the charging connector again with the rubber cover. Charging a completely discharged battery takes approximately 2.5 hours. During charging, you can use the head torch, but the charging time will be extended and available power modes depend on the current battery charge level.
Low battery warning: When the battery voltage drops below the set level, the head torch automatically switches to lower power modes. If the head torch is already switched to the lowest power mode and the battery is critically discharged, the indicator in the button will start flashing red. However, the head torch will continue to shine until the battery is completely discharged. Note: the low battery warning is calibrated only for the voltage of rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
Locking the head torch against accidental activation: Loosen the battery lock of the head torch by a quarter turn, this breaks the electrical contact and the head torch cannot be turned on. The button can also be locked electronically – with the head torch off, hold the button down for 3 seconds. After locking, the light will flash red. To unlock, hold the button down for 3 seconds again.
Warning
- Keep the head torch out of reach of children.
- Do not shine the head torch directly into anyone's eyes.
- Do not disassemble the sealed part in the head of the light yourself, this will void the warranty.
- Lock the head torch, remove the battery or loosen the end cap to prevent accidental activation if the head torch is placed in an enclosed space (e.g. in a pocket or rucksack).
- Do not shine on flammable objects from close proximity to prevent damage or danger due to high temperature.
- If using a disposable CR123A battery, do not attempt to charge it in the light.
- If the rubber O-ring appears damaged after prolonged use, replace it. The rings should also be lubricated to prevent rubber degradation. By following these rules, the light will be properly protected against water.
- If the head torch flashes, does not switch to higher power modes or does not light up, it could be one of the following reasons:
- The battery is almost discharged – charge it or replace it.
- The contacts inside the head torch are dirty – clean them with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol.
- The back of the head torch is loose – tighten it.
