Lightweight, powerful and uncompromisingly versatile – that is the rechargeable head torch Fenix HM55R, designed for every situation. Thanks to its compact Li-ion 18350 battery, it weighs only 105 grammes, yet its maximum output of 1200 lumens with a beam distance of up to 175 metres will impress you. It offers three types of lighting – long-range, wide and red – so you always have the right light at hand, whether you are exploring terrain, working in a workshop, or simply want to read in a tent. The long-range reflector creates a well-focused light beam with long beam distance, and the second reflector has a very wide and smooth light pattern. The light output of the long-range reflector is up to 1200 lumens, the wide-beam reflector offers maximum output of 350 lumens and has a neutral light tone with high colour rendering index CRI >90 (Color Rendering Index). There is also red light and a strobe with 5 lumens. It is powered by one Li-ion 18350 battery with a capacity of 1600 mAh, which is included in the package and charges via a modern USB-C connector directly in the head torch. In an emergency, the head torch can also be powered by RCR123A (16340) batteries or a disposable CR123A battery. The head torch is fitted with a wide comfortable strap. The strap is perforated for quick sweat drainage and fitted with reflective elements that ensure good passive visibility, for example when running on the road.

The HM55R construction is fully dust-proof and waterproof to a depth of 2 metres in accordance with the IP68 standard and is also impact-resistant to drops from a height of 2 metres. The head torch is also equipped with a battery life extension function. The HM55R is available in 3 stylish colours and is suitable for professional use, various sports activities (hiking, camping, running, cycling, skiing...), underground work, for fishermen and other uses. All parameters of the head torch (light output, battery runtime, waterproofness, beam distance and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.

Specifications of the Fenix HM55R rechargeable running head torch

• The light source in the long-range reflector is an LED Luminus SST-25, the source in the wide reflector is Luminus SST-20V-Ra90 with a warmer light tone and high CRI >90, the source of red light is an LED Everlight 2835, all with a lifespan of 50,000 hours.
• Long-range reflector: 1200 lumens (2.2 hours) -> 350 lumens (6.5 hours) -> 130 lumens (12.6 hours) -> 30 lumens (47.3 hours).

Use of the Fenix HM55R head torch

From the factory, there may be an insulating cover on the battery. Remove it from the battery before first use.

Switching on/off and mode switching – White light is switched on by holding the switch for 0.5 seconds, the head torch is switched to red light by double-tapping the switch quickly. The power modes of the switched-on light colour are then switched by briefly pressing the switch. The light is switched off again by holding it for 0.5 seconds.

Switching between long-range and wide reflector – Switching between the long-range and wide reflector is done by holding the switch for 1.2 seconds.

Memory for the last set power mode – The head torch has memory and will switch on in the last set power mode of the respective reflector, with the exception of the highest mode of the long-range reflector and red light modes.

Intelligent proximity sensor – The head torch has a built-in safety circuit. When the reflector approaches the illuminated object to less than 6 cm and for longer than 1.5 seconds, it automatically reduces the output to 30 lumens to prevent overheating and possible burns or damage to the illuminated object. When the light moves away from the illuminated object for longer than 0.8 seconds, it automatically restores the previously used power mode.

Switching the proximity sensor off/on – With the head torch switched off, press and hold the electronic switch for 6 seconds. The head torch will flash twice, indicating that this function is switched on. Switch the function off again by holding the electronic switch for 6 seconds with the head torch switched off. The head torch will flash 8 times, indicating that the function is switched off.

Battery replacement – Unscrew the battery cover of the head torch and insert the battery in accordance with the marked polarity. Then tighten the cover completely again.

Charging – Flip open the dust cover and connect the USB-C charging cable to the charging port of the head torch. After charging is complete, replace the dust cover. During charging, the indicator lights red. When fully charged, it lights green. The typical charging time is 2 hours with a 5 V/1 A USB source for a fully discharged head torch. During charging, you can use the head torch, but the charging time will be extended and the available power modes depend on the current battery charge level. Note: It is possible to charge Fenix 18350 and 16340/RCR123A batteries (3.6–3.7 V).

Battery charge status indication – Each time you switch on, or after pressing the button with the head torch switched off, the indicator LED activates for three seconds. If the indicator LED lights green, the battery is charged to more than 80%. Green flashing means 50–80% capacity. If it lights red, it is charged to 20–50%. Red flashing indicates that less than 20% battery capacity remains. It only works with rechargeable Fenix 18350 and 16340/RCR123A batteries.

Intelligent overheat protection – When using the head torch for extended periods at high power modes, a large amount of heat accumulates. When the head torch reaches a temperature of 55 °C or higher, it automatically reduces the output by several lumens to lower the temperature. When the temperature drops below 55 °C, the output gradually increases again.

Low battery warning – If the battery voltage drops below the set level, the head torch will reduce brightness to a lower level. After reaching the lowest output, the battery charge status indicator will flash red to remind you to recharge or replace the battery.
Note: It only works with rechargeable Fenix 18350 and 16340/RCR123A batteries.

Warning

• Do not disassemble sealed parts yourself, as this will void the warranty.
• Use only quality Li-ion 18350 batteries, if you use disposable CR123A batteries, do not attempt to charge them in the head torch.
• If the head torch is flashing, not switching to higher power modes or not lighting up, it could be due to one of the following reasons:
  • The battery is discharged – charge it or replace it.
  • The contacts inside the head torch are dirty – clean them with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol.
