Specification
The Fenix HM71R is a high-performance rechargeable head torch that offers a light output of up to 2700 lumens (ANSI). The head torch is fitted with two light sources; in the long-range reflector there is an LED Luminus SFT-70, which illuminates up to a distance of 230 metres. In the second, wide reflector, there is an LED Luminus SST-20 with neutral white light and a high colour rendering index CRI 90 (Color Rendering Index) of 500 lumens, which has a very wide and smooth light beam. It is powered by one rechargeable Li-ion battery of type 21700 with a capacity of 5000 mAh, which charges directly in the head torch via a USB-C connector. The control button has a built-in indicator LED, so you will always know when the battery needs charging. The torch head is magnetic, so it can be easily attached to anything made of iron. The torch is powered by a digitally regulated constant current to ensure constant light output even as the battery voltage decreases (as they gradually discharge).
The all-metal construction ensures high durability, optimal cooling and is fully waterproof to standard IP68 to a depth of 2 metres underwater. Durability is enhanced by a protective cover around the reflectors made of stainless steel. The practicality of the head torch is increased by the ability to remove the light from the head mount and use it as a pocket or work torch. In addition, the head torch is fitted with a steel removable clip, so you can easily attach it to a pocket or strap. The multifunctional Fenix HM71R torch will be appreciated by speleologists, mountain guides, ski mountaineers, climbers, cyclists, rescue workers, mountain rescue services, as well as repairers and workers in industrial sectors and also tourists or anglers.
All torch parameters (light output, battery runtime, waterproofness, beam distance and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with standard ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009.
Specifications of the Fenix HM71R rechargeable head torch
- Premium high-performance LED Luminus SFT-70 with daylight tint (approx. 6000 K) and LED Luminus SST-20 with CRI 90 and neutral tint (approx. 4000 K) are used, both with a lifespan of 50,000 hours.
- Long-range reflector: 2700 lumens (3 hours) -> 800 lumens (5 hours) -> 200 lumens (16 hours) -> 50 lumens (48 hours).
- Wide reflector: 500 lumens (8 hours) -> 200 lumens (16 hours) -> 50 lumens (48 hours) -> 5 lumens (400 hours).
- Light output and runtime are measured with the included Li-ion battery 21700 with a capacity of 5000 mAh.
- The long-range reflector creates a light cone with a beam distance of 230 metres (13,300 cd), the wide reflector illuminates up to a distance of 47 metres (555 cd).
- Power supply: one Li-ion battery 21700.
- Intelligent overheat protection.
- Dimensions 106 mm length x 45 mm x 46 mm (including head torch mount).
- Weight 207.5 grams (including strap and battery).
- Battery capacity indication and low voltage warning.
- Magnetic torch head, the head torch can be attached to anything made of iron.
- Protection against reverse battery insertion (polarity reversal).
- Comfortable strap with reflective elements.
- Simple one-button operation.
- Body made of high-strength aircraft aluminium alloy, protective cover around reflectors made of stainless steel.
- Durable hard-to-scratch surface - Type III hard anodized.
- Impact resistant to drops from a height of 2 metres.
- Waterproof and dustproof to standard IP68 (tested underwater at a depth of 2 metres for 30 minutes).
- The package includes the Fenix HM71R head torch, clip, battery ARB-L21-5000 V2.0, spare O-ring, USB-C charging cable.
- It is possible to purchase a set of black straps AFH-02 without reflective elements. Suitable for example for hunting, military or police use.

- For easy attachment to a helmet, you can purchase the Fenix ALG-03 adhesive mount, or the Fenix ALG-04 NVG mount.
Use
From the factory there may be an insulating cover on the battery inside the torch. Before first use, remove it from the battery.
- The switched-off head torch will turn on to the last used long-range reflector mode by holding the button for 0.5 seconds (except when switched off in the highest mode, then it will next turn on in the second highest mode).
- The switched-off head torch will turn on to the lowest mode (5 lumens) of the wide reflector by double-tapping the button.
- The switched-on head torch will turn off by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
- When the head torch is on, you can switch between the long-range and wide reflector by holding the button for 1.2 seconds. Both reflectors cannot be operated at the same time.
When the head torch is on, you can cycle through the power modes in the order 50 - 200 - 800 - 2700 lumens (when the long-range reflector is on) or 5 - 50 - 200 - 500 lumens (when the wide reflector is on) by pressing the button briefly. The torch has memory for the long-range reflector and will always turn on in the last set mode (except when switched off in the highest mode, then it will next turn on in the second highest mode). The wide reflector always starts in the lowest mode.
Battery charge status indication: After a brief press of the button (the head torch must be switched off), the LED indicator in the button activates. If the indicator light is green, the battery is charged to more than 80%. Green flashing means 50-80% capacity. If it is red, it is charged to 20-50%. Red flashing indicates that less than 20% of the battery capacity remains.
Locking the head torch against accidental activation: Loosen the battery cover of the head torch by a quarter turn, this breaks the electrical contact and the head torch cannot be switched on. The button can also be locked electronically – with the head torch switched off, hold the button down for 3 seconds. After locking, the torch will flash four times. To unlock, hold the button down again for 3 seconds.
Overheat protection: If the head torch temperature exceeds 65 °C, it will automatically reduce power in gradual steps until the temperature stabilises. As soon as the temperature drops below 65 °C, the highest power modes can be used again.
Battery discharge warning: If the battery voltage drops below the set level, the head torch automatically switches to lower power modes. If the head torch is already switched to the lowest power mode and the battery is critically discharged, the indicator in the button will start flashing red. However, the head torch will continue to light until the battery is completely discharged.
Charging
Connect the charging cable to the USB connector of a computer, USB mains adapter or USB car adapter. On the head torch, flip off the rubber cover and connect the cable to the charging USB-C port. During charging, the indicator light in the button is red; after charging is complete, it is green. The head torch can be used during charging in the lowest long-range light mode, but the charging time will be extended accordingly. Charging a fully discharged Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 battery takes approximately 4 hours (using a 5V/2A source).
Warning
- Do not disassemble the sealed part in the torch head yourself, as this will void the warranty.
- If the protective rubber rings appear damaged after prolonged use, replace them. The rings should also be lubricated to prevent rubber erosion. By following these rules, the torch will be properly protected against water.
- If the torch flashes, does not switch to higher power modes, or does not light up, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
- The battery is almost discharged – charge it or replace it.
- The contacts inside the torch are dirty – clean them with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol.
- The rear of the torch is loose – tighten it.
Warranty
Five-year warranty on the torch, two-year warranty on the battery.
