Rechargeable head torch Fenix HP16R delivers a total output of up to 1250 lumens and two light cones, with the long-range reflector featuring a premium LED Luminus SST-40 producing a well-focused light beam with a beam distance of up to 260 metres and a second reflector with a powerful LED Cree XP-G3 S4 offering a very wide and smooth light pattern out to a distance of 48 metres. The light output of the long-range reflector is up to 1250 lumens, the wide-cone reflector provides a maximum output of 400 lumens and neutral light colour. Control of both LEDs is independent, light from both reflectors can be freely combined to achieve a combined light output of up to 1250 lumens. The long-range reflector offers four brightness levels and the wide reflector three. Additionally, the head torch is fitted with a red LED with an output of 5 lumens, which can be used in an emergency to transmit an SOS signal.

Power is supplied by one Li-pol rechargeable battery ARB-LP3000 with a capacity of 3000 mAh, which is included in the package and charges via a modern USB-C connector. This battery is housed in a pouch on the rear, so the head torch is well balanced on the head. If needed, it can be replaced with four standard AA alkaline batteries, though maximum output is then limited to 800 lumens and they cannot be recharged in the head torch.

The head torch is made from hardened aluminium and durable plastics, its construction is fully dust-proof and water-sealed to the standard IP66 and also impact-resistant to drops from a height of 2 metres. It is also equipped with a runtime extension function. During extended use of individual brightness modes, the head torch gradually reduces output in small steps to achieve longer operating time.

The HP16R head torch replaces the older HP15 model and thanks to its high output and runtime and the option to use alkaline batteries, it is suitable for anyone who wants a powerful and reliable companion in extreme conditions for dusk and darkness. It will serve well for work such as rescue personnel and other professions, but also for athletes, mountaineers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

All parameters of the head torch (light output, battery runtime, water resistance, beam distance and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.

Specifications for Fenix HP16R head torch

• The light source in the long-range reflector is a white LED Luminus SST-40, the source in the wide reflector is Cree XP-G2 S3 with neutral light colour and a red LED Everlight 2835 is also available. All with a lifespan of 50,000 hours of operation.

Using the HP16R head torch

The battery may have an insulating cover from the factory. Remove it from the battery before first use.

The long-range reflector is switched on by holding the right button (approximately 0.5s), the wide reflector or red light is switched on by holding the left button (0.5s). Presses of the right button cycle through the long-range reflector modes, presses of the left button cycle through the wide reflector and red light modes in the following order: white 5, 150, 400 lumens, red 5 lumens, SOS signal. Both reflectors are switched off by holding the respective button and after switching off the head torch remembers the last set mode. Both reflectors can be switched on simultaneously.

Battery charge status indication - After a short press of either button (the head torch must be off) the LED charge status indicator between the buttons activates. If the green light is on, it means the battery is charged to 85-100%, if the green light flashes, it means the charge is 50-85%. If the red light comes on, the battery is charged to 25-50% and if it starts flashing, the battery status is critical and the head torch is charged to less than 25%.

Control buttons can be locked to prevent accidental activation, for example when transporting in luggage - in the off state press both buttons and hold them for at least 3 seconds, then the head torch will flash red, indicating it is locked. To unlock, hold both buttons again for three seconds.

Overheat protection: If the head torch temperature exceeds 65°C it will automatically reduce output in gradual steps until the temperature stabilises. Once the temperature drops below 65°C the output will gradually increase again.

Low battery warning: when the voltage drops below a certain threshold it automatically switches to a lower power mode, if the battery status indicator starts flashing during operation, the battery is almost discharged.

Charging: Flip open the USB-C connector cover on the battery pouch and connect the supplied charging cable, connect the other end of the cable to a computer, power bank or USB adapter to the mains or USB adapter to a car (not included in the package). During charging the LED on the battery pouch lights red. After full charging it will remain green. Charging a fully discharged battery takes approximately 3 hours.

Low battery warning - the head torch gradually automatically reduces the number of available power modes. With completely discharged batteries only the single lowest mode will be available.

Warnings

• Do not disassemble sealed parts yourself, this will void the warranty.
• Use only Fenix ARB-LP3000 rechargeable battery or quality AA alkaline batteries to prevent damage to the head torch, for example due to leakage from batteries.
• If using disposable AA batteries, remove them from the head torch if you will not be using it for an extended period, or if the batteries are discharged. This will prevent them from leaking and subsequently damaging the head torch.
• If the head torch flashes, does not switch to higher power modes or does not light up, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
  • Batteries are almost discharged – replace them or charge the rechargeable battery.
  • Contacts in the battery holder are dirty – clean them with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol.
