The method of preparing coffee in a percolator is extremely simple. Add a filter basket filled with coffee to the boiling water in the percolator. The hollow stem of the filter basket then conducts the boiling water upwards into the glass cooling valve, where it cools and drips back down through the filter basket to the bottom of the percolator. After a short time, the coffee is ready to pour.
