Mount Fuji is the highest mountain in Japan and plays an important role in ancient Japanese Shinto religion. Fu means wealthy, Ji means warrior and San means mountain. The katana has a hand-forged blade made from carbon steel with a fine hamon and was traditionally hardened. In addition, the blade steel was folded 12 times, which means approximately 8,000 layers were created, giving the sword a beautiful damascene pattern. The sharp blade is fitted with a hi (fuller) to reduce overall weight. Mount Fuji is depicted on the tsuba. The handle (tsuka) is made from wood, covered with genuine ray skin and contains two menukis. In addition, it was traditionally wrapped in black cotton. The tang is particularly long and secured with two bamboo pegs (mekugi). The scabbard (saya) is made from wood and the blade collar (habaki) is made from brass. This katana was made according to original museum displays. The sword comes with a certificate of origin, wrapped in cloth and packaged in a high-quality wooden box.
