The name is derived from the matt, reddish-brown lacquered scabbard, on which the wood grain is still clearly visible. The sword blade in Shinogi-Zukuri style has a groove (Bo-Hi), is hand-forged, blunt and made from stainless steel 420. The handle wrap is made from black cotton in the classic Hineri Maki style. In the reddish-brown, matt lacquered scabbard in Cha-Sti Ishimi style, the wood grain is still visible. Thanks to the long tang, which is secured in the handle with two bamboo pegs (Mekugi), the sword is fully disassemblable. No plastic is used; only quality authentic materials are employed. The blade collar (Habaki) and washers (Seppa) are made from brass. The traditional handle wrap is lined with authentic ray skin leather. All fittings (Tsuba, Fuchi, Menuki, Kashira) are made from metal. It comes with a protective textile bag in an attractive collector's box. Each original John Lee sword is fitted with a seal and certificate.
