Miyamoto Musashi lived from 1584 to 1645 and is recorded in Japanese history as one of the most influential samurai. He is regarded as the greatest Japanese swordsman. He was an artist and craftsman in equal measure. The Katana Musashi Ichi features a hand-forged blade made from folded carbon steel and traditionally hardened. The sharp blade is fitted with a hi (fuller) to reduce overall weight. The handle (tsuka) is made from wood, wrapped in genuine ray skin and fitted with two menuki. It has also been traditionally wrapped in black cotton. The tang is particularly long and secured with two bamboo pegs (mekugi). The scabbard (saya) is made from wood and the blade collar (habaki) is made from brass. This katana was made according to original museum exhibits. The sword comes with a certificate of origin, wrapped in cloth and packaged in a high-quality wooden box. All measurements are subject to estimation.
