The typical feature of Assault rucksacks is the MOLLE system.

What is the MOLLE system?
The MOLLE system is a webbing attachment system consisting of horizontally placed webbing straps 1 inch (2.54cm) wide with vertical spacing of 1 inch. The straps are sewn to the base fabric (for example on a vest or rucksack) at 1.5 inch (3.81cm) intervals. This system was patented by the US armed forces in 1998. Today the MOLLE system is the most widely used webbing attachment system in the world.
