Magnesium fire steel/fire starter Morakniv Fire Starter with a sturdy plastic handle with grooves is a reliable means of lighting a fire in any weather without the use of matches. It uses magnesium as a source of flame with a temperature of 3000°C.

Using the top edge of a knife or another suitable metal object, scrape magnesium shavings onto suitable tinder material, such as leaves, pine needles or dry grass. Move quickly along the entire length of the fire starter. The sparks produced will then ignite the tinder material you have prepared in advance.

The spark from the fire starter can be used as an emergency signal.

The fire starter is water-repellent – it can be used in damp, cold and snowy conditions. One fire starter will last for creating hundreds of fires.
