Breathable waterproof footwear will most likely perspire and become damp inside when used in wet or damp conditions. If the outer fabric or leather absorbs water, the breathability of the footwear will be reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain durable water-repellency (DWR) on the footwear to ensure comfort. With use, contaminants such as dirt accumulate on the outer surface of the footwear, which attract water and mask the effect of any DWR surface treatment. How to use
Apply Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel by hand...
Recommended for Gore-Tex®, eVent® and SympaTex® footwear.
- Rinse the item with clean water to remove loose dirt and dampen the surface.
- Shake well before use. Press the applicator with brush to break the seal, or turn the spray nozzle to the "ON" position.
- Apply generously to the area being cleaned.
- If heavily soiled, scrub with a stiff nylon brush (e.g. a nail brush).
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- If necessary, apply an appropriate Nikwax WaterBased proofing or conditioner whilst the footwear is damp.
Note: Colour may run; test on a hidden area first.
Always allow footwear to dry naturally...
Allow footwear to dry at room temperature.
Paper can be inserted into the toes to absorb excess moisture; this should be changed once damp.
Keep footwear away from fire and radiators; drying too quickly can cause leather to crack and glued soles to separate.
