For 3,800 years, the Maya have used natural pine splinters as candles and fire starters. Small logs have a high resin content, which burns more easily and hotter than paper, wax and other tinder. If you want to start a fire in the outdoors, simply shave a few shavings from the wood using the back of a knife and light them with a fire steel. For a short time, resin rises from the roots into the heartwood. The stub is hand-split into small pieces. These pieces are hand-sorted and then packaged.
