What is Rip-Stop? Ripstop is a fabric with high strength, manufactured using a special technique. Thicker threads are woven into thin textile at intervals of 5–8 mm. The advantages of ripstop fabrics lie in their very good weight-to-stability ratio and high tear strength. Ripstop is used for hot air balloons, parachutes, boat sails, tents, rucksacks and sports clothing. All camouflage uniforms of the American Army are currently made from so-called ripstop poplin (50% polyamide and 50% cotton). Ripstop was developed in the USA during the Second World War.
