OSPREY TALON 44 is a versatile trekking backpack with a volume of 44 liters designed for dynamic movement in the mountains. It is the larger brother of the popular TALON 22 – offering the same close-to-body fit with AirScape™ and BioStretch™ technologies, with greater volume for extended day hikes, two- and three-day treks. Weight around 1.1 kg and an efficient design make it one of the best hybrids between a lightweight daypack and a trekking backpack.
AirScape™ back system with close-to-body fit
The TALON 44 has an AirScape™ back system with shaped channels that ensure airflow directly on the back – unlike suspended ventilation systems, the center of gravity is closer to the body, which provides better balance during scrambling and dynamic movements. The BioStretch™ shoulder straps adapt to body movement and do not irritate the skin. The ErgoPull™ hipbelt allows comfortable adjustment.
Organization for multi-day hikes
The TALON 44 offers a main compartment with dual access (top + side zipper), a separate sleeping bag compartment, two stretch side pockets, two zippered pockets on the hipbelt, a front stretch pocket, Stow-on-the-Go™ trekking pole attachments and an ice axe loop. There is an integrated raincover in the bottom.

Advantages and disadvantages of the OSPREY TALON 44
✓ Advantages: close-to-body fit for dynamic movement, better balance during scrambling, integrated raincover, complete attachments, All Mighty Guarantee lifetime warranty, versatility between a daypack and a trekking backpack.
✗ Disadvantages: less back breathability than the STRATOS 34 (for people who sweat heavily), the close-to-body fit may be tighter for larger body types, 100D material is thin (less durability compared to the KESTREL 38).
Comparison: TALON 44 vs TALON 22, STRATOS 34, KESTREL 38
OSPREY TALON 22 (22 L) is the smaller sibling for day hikes with lower weight. OSPREY STRATOS 34 (34 L) has a suspended AirSpeed™ back system with better breathability but worse balance during dynamic movement. OSPREY KESTREL 38 (38 L) is more robust and more organized as an expedition trekking backpack for tougher conditions. TALON 44 is the most versatile – suitable for scrambling, trekking and via ferratas.
Who is the OSPREY TALON 44 intended for?
The TALON 44 is a men's trekking backpack (the female equivalent is TEMPEST 33) recommended for 3–5 day treks, scrambling, via ferratas, ski mountaineering and dynamic outdoor sports. Ideal for active hikers who want a versatile backpack.
